On 11 March 2026, the Independent Redress Mechanism (IRM) of the Green Climate Fund (GCF) hosted a public outreach webinar titled Accountability in Action: Responding to Grievances at the GCF. The virtual session brought together civil society organizations and community stakeholders to explore how accountability works at GCF and how people who may be affected by GCF funded projects can raise concerns and seek remedy with the IRM.

The webinar provided an overview of the GCF architecture and the IRM’s independent mandate, highlighting the IRM’s role in receiving and addressing complaints related to the environmental and social impacts of GCF funded activities. Participants were guided through the process of filing a complaint, including who can submit a complaint, when complaints can be submitted, and the types of issues the IRM can and cannot address.

A key focus of the session was the IRM’s case handling process, which explained how the IRM uses both problem solving and compliance review to address grievances. Through practical examples, interactive polls, and open discussion, participants gained a clearer understanding of how grievances are assessed, the potential outcomes and remedies, and how the IRM works alongside project level and accredited entity grievance mechanisms.

To encourage open participation, the webinar allowed participants to join anonymously and was conducted in an off the record setting. A dedicated Q&A session enabled attendees to ask questions directly and share reflections on accountability, access to information, and remedy in the context of climate finance. The webinar is part of the IRM’s ongoing outreach efforts to raise awareness of its role and ensure that affected communities and civil society know how to access the IRM.
