The IRM recently wrapped up a four-week virtual workshop designed to enhance the capacity of grievance redress mechanisms (GRMs) of GCF direct access entities (DAEs) in Latin America, the Caribbean, Asia, and the Pacific. Starting on 21 May, participants followed the IRM’s online basic training course on the GCF’s iLearn platform and joined live interactive sessions with peers and accountability experts. Participants gained valuable insights into the history of GRMs, key principles for effective mechanisms, the basics of problem-solving and compliance review, as well as practical advice on case management and lessons from other GRMs.

The live interactive sessions were conducted by Mia Corpus, a seasoned professional with extensive experience in conflict resolution, coaching, and program management. She has previously worked with the accountability mechanisms of the GCF, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the International Finance Corporation (IFC). The sessions also included contributions from several accountability experts: Lalanath de Silva, Managing Director of Transparentem and Viswanathan Ramasubramanian, Principal Facilitation Specialist, Asian Development Bank.

"The GCF grievance redress mechanism training was quite valuable, as it provided clear and complete insights into dealing with complaints and conflicts inside GCF projects. The courses were well-structured, with practical examples and interactive components that helped us comprehend GRM principles and procedures. The training stressed the significance of transparency, accountability, compliance, and speedy grievance resolution. Overall, it was a valuable experience that will help us better assure compliance with the GCF's social and environmental safeguards." - Niraj Kumar, Internal Auditor, Secretariat of the Pacific Regional Environment Programme (SPREP)

Upon successful completion of the online modules and live workshop sessions, participants received a course certificate signed by the Head of the IRM.
